West Ham have bought in some good defenders lately, looking back at January Curbs bought in the likes of Davenport, Upson and most notably our new captain Lucas Neill.

However, with the influx of centre backs and finally a more than decent right back West ham still seem short in one area of defence, which is the role of Left back. After and abysmal and dissapointing season last term, Paul Konchesky has left and joined Fulham.

For the majority of Curbishleys reign at Upton park George McCartney has filled that role though if he were to be injured West Ham may be in trouble to find a replacement.

West Ham have been linked with a number of players this summer including Nicky Shorey, who has expressed his delight at being linked with the hammers, seems set to renew his contract Reading. If it does go through Alan Curbishley will need to look elsewhere for a solid left back.

With the days ticking away and potential targets slipping out of reach Curbs needs to strengthen this position as the club seems short in this area.

Couldnt agree more... LB is the most important position atm.

Leighton Baines would be ideal in my eyes... will be world class within a few seasons. However feel Shorey would also fit nicely in the position and probably an easier target.

I think Wigan are reluctant to give him up for anything less than a highly inflated price and i don't blame them, he's the last bit quality they have in their squad.
