Town are reported to be closing in on the signing of former keeper Richard Wright. The West Ham stopper is believed to be keen on a return to Portman Road, having almost re-signed a year ago.
TWTD first reported that Wright was being monitored by the Blues back in March with Jim Magilton confirming that he would be interested in signing the ex-England man in May.

Wright, 30, came close to joining the Blues last summer but Town are understood to have stalled on completing the deal until the keeper’s representatives had found a new club for Lewis Price, who has the same agent. Before Price’s switch to Derby had been completed and with the new season approaching fast, West Ham came in for Wright.

A good goalkeeper but not good enough to ever threaten Green.

Was a good back up keeper to have, mind you.

West Ham United goalkeeper Richard Wright is expected to leave the Hammers and join Championship side Ipswich Town, where the former England International started his career.

30-year-old Wright spent seven years at Portman Road making 240 appearances for the Tractor Boys, before a £6million transfer to Arsenal in 2001.

However, despite earning his two England caps while being with the Gunners, failed to make the number one spot his own at Highbury, and was sold to Everton a year later. Wright spent five years at Goodison Park, but a stream of injuries saw him lose out to former Manchester United keeper Tim Howard (left) for the number one jersey.

The shot-stopper moved from Everton to West Ham last season, but has failed to make a single appearance for the Irons while playing second fiddle to Robert Green, with Wright being loaned out to Southampton for the latter part of last season.

Reports suggest that Ipswich manager Jim Magilton will complete a £500,000 deal for the former Portman Road favourite in the next two weeks.

West Ham goalkeeper Richard Wright is poised to leave Upton Park after passing a medical ahead of a return to his former side Ipswich Town.

The 30-year-old joined The Hammers last summer but made just three Carling Cup appearances before joining Southampton on loan for the final weeks of the season.

His brief time in East London is now coming to a close and Wright is expected to sign a three-year deal at the club he left to join Arsenal in 2001.

"We are very, very close," Ipswich manager Jim Magilton told the East Anglian Daily Times.

"Everything is done and dusted as far as we are concerned. We are waiting on the West Ham end now.

"Richard has passed a medical so everything is at the late stages."

Wright started his career at Portman Road before earning a £6 million move to The Gunners but after failing to secure a regular role under Arsene Wenger, moved onto Everton and spent five seasons at Goodison.
